Our Story...

Building Blocks for Life

We saw a need…

Molly Fisher and Kate Hollenbach, originally from the United States and former teachers in a local bilingual school, have lived in the Puerto Vallarta area for the past 5 years. We have been actively involved in community service including organizing free spay and neuter animal clinics and teaching free English classes to children. During the past several years, we have seen the rapid development of new beachside resorts, condos and million dollar homes in Punta Mita. The local townspeople are being surrounded by this development and do not have the skills to benefit from it. We want to help.

Why Start Here?

The town of Corral del Risco (Punta Mita) was built for the people who were relocated from the Punta de Mita peninsula for real estate purposes. This town was built 13 years ago. The homes lack bathroom and kitchen sinks and receive running water every other day with no means of storage. The local people seem to have little sense of community, pride or cleanliness. A major way that Casa Comunidad can help this village is by providing basic and intermediate English for both the children and adults. These skills are essential in order to obtain well paying jobs in this tourist community. The local community is aware of this reality. Another way we can help is by developing a Women's Co-op so that women who would not ordinarily be able to work can earn an income working from home. We have also created an after school program where children are developing a sense of community and pride as well as partaking in a variety of educational classes. We hope to make a real difference in a town where poverty is high and the education level is low.
